SPANISH MAGAZINES

MICROHOBBY
MicroHobby was the primary Spanish informatic magazine, dedicated to the ZX Spectrum.

It was published for a long time, between November 1984 and January 1992, divided into three phases and a total of 217 issues:

  • First phase: weekly publishing, from issue 1 to issue 159
  • Second phase: bi-weekly publishing, from issue 160 to issue 183
  • Third phase: monthly publishing, from issue 184 to issue 217
Seven additional Special Edition were also released.
It was published by HobbyPress, which also released Micromanía.
It was a fond magazine in the heart of the Portuguese community.
Do not mistake this publication for the Brazilian one of the same name.
MICROMANÍA
Micromanía is a Spanish mag that is still being published to this day, and is dedicated to computer games and started being published in 1985, by HobbyPress, the same publishing company that had released MicroHobby a few months prior. Together they were some of the biggest driving forces for the Spanish software golden age, and this was one of the first European magazines dedicated to videogames in general.
Until 2002, its’ slogan that was always visible on the magazine was “Sólo para adictos” (Only for addicts).
It has three phases and is usually published on a monthly basis.
The first phase (1985 to 1988), with 35 issues and some extra numbers, focused on the 8-bit systems, the first ZX Spectrum and, later, on other systems (Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, MSX, etc). On the cover of the first issue was pictured the renowned Jet Set Willy game.
The second phase (1988 to January 1995), with 80 issues, took on a physical format that was closer to the one of a newspaper. It started including coding lists, pokes and other similar things. Occasionally, they released some cassettes to accompany the magazine itself. It was the transition phase from the 8-bit into the 16-bit.
The third phase, which is still going on, is not relevant for our Museum.
ZX
ZX was a Spanish informatics mag dedicated to the ZX Spectrum (and, during the first issues, also dedicated to the ZX81).
