ACORN ELECTRON

Released by Acorn merely two years after the BBC Micro, the Electron is a rather simplified version of the latter. It was created to directly compete with the ZX Spectrum in the low-cost marketplace.

Due to the brand’s popularity in the United Kingdom (and also because every school was equipped with Acorn’s microcomputers), for a short period of time the Electron was England’s most sold microcomputer.

Even though it was not as popular as the ZX Spectrum, the Commodore 64 or even the Amstrad CPC, Acorn Electron marked its’ position in the ranking, being the 4th in line in the 8-bit war going on in Europe. The Electron was an unsung hero in this battle for the top.
