BBC MICRO
The BBC Micro is one of the main players in one of the most fascinating competition stories between two tech and informatic companies in Europe.
The year was 1980, the United Kingdom had just launched the “Computer Literacy Project”, with the aim of growing informatic knowledge in the country, which was quite low at the time, especially compared to the USA.

Sinclair and Acorn both applied to the programme, kicking off a fascinating story immortalized through the cinema adaptation “Micro Men”.
Even though Acorn won the contest and put the BBC Micro in every school in the UK, the ZX Spectrum ended up becoming the most popular micro, having sold 4 units for every BBC Micro sold. Sinclair managed to do this through an aggressive commercial policy.

Another option considered by BBC was the Newbrain, but the company soon realized that they would not be able to stick to any of the desired deadlines.
