ATARI 400/800
After having a monopoly of the home console market with the ATARI 2600, the North American company decided to shift its’ focus onto the home micro market. They did this by releasing an 8-bit line, the Atari 400 and the Atari 800.

Even though its’ membrane keyboard was inferior to the one the Atari 800 had, the Atari 400 sold twice as many units as its’ “older” sibling. This was a clear sign that the market was more than ready for low-cost computers, even if that price reflected itself onto the device’s quality. This would later become the foundation for Sinclair’s strategy.

Later, Atari would develop this micro-computer line into an XL line. On display we have an Atari 800XL, a model released in 1983, and it came as a replacement for the original Atari 800. The Atari 800XL later became the brand’s best-selling computer ever.
