M.R.E. INTERFACES

Joaquim Albuquerque de Moura Relvas was a Professor at FCT at the Universidade de Coimbra and the ISP Gaya. He worked at companies like the CTT (Portuguese Postal Service) and made it to be the President of the Portuguese Electric Union (EDP).

He is known as the author of many books in the field of electronic and microcomputers. Unfortunately, Moura Relvas passed away in 2017, but in 2019 the Retromania portal interviewed one of his sons. You can read the interview here.

Professor Moura Relvas is also the man behind the Spectrum accessories with the M.R.E. branding – Moura Relvas Electrónica.

According to the interview, Moura Relvas was what we call a “maker” in current time, the one that built what you needed but could not find in the market.

The first interface he launched was a sound amplifier for which he developed a moulding factory. Later he also associated himself with CATIM – Centro de Apoio Tecnológico à Indústria Metalomecânica, which helped in the making and development of software for some of the interfaces.

He also released joysticks and interfaces related to that kind of peripheral.

During the late ‘80s he also tried to dip his feet into the business market, selling ZX Spectrum’s for P.O.S. systems.
