ZX SPECTRUM 16/48K BOARDS – VERSIONS

On this booth we have other version of ZX Spectrum complementary boards, leaning further into our collector’s trait. From top to bottom you can see:

  • The first board is unofficially called Issue 1.5, that is, it is an Issue 2 board, but with an Issue 1 ULA.
  • The second one is an Issue 2 board, with factory modifications to overcome any constrains and limitations previously discovered (in this case, the diode-resistor fix).
  • Next, we have another Issue 2 board, but this time with a transistor fix, and with the transistor in an uncanny location. The Thorn EMI Datatech company that assembled Sinclair’s Spectrum and whose serial numbers started on D01 – was the company that produced these boards. There is also another particularity: these boards had a 16KB memory, not 48KB.
  • Moving along, we have the Samsung Issue 3B, and also an Issue 4S (a name attributed precisely because the manufacturer was Samsung). These are very well-known due to the green protector/film that is located over the board and are also considered to be of better quality.
  • You can also see a yellow Issue 3 and Issue 4, which are much more aesthetically pleasing. We do not have the Issue 3, but we have displayed a photograph given to us by another great friend of ours, Brendan Alford. There is also a yellow Issue 3B that we have not showcased here.
