GRUNDY NEWBRAIN (A AND AD)
The Newbrain was a computer idealized by Sinclair before the creation of the ZX80, but an idea that was soon discarded because it did not respect the £100 price tag that had been imposed.
But when the project fell into Newbury Labs’ hands, the computer even made it to be BBC’s choice for the education market but, after realizing that the computer would not be ready on time, it ended up being overlooked in favour of Acorn’s model.
The specifications of the computer were then sold to Grundy, a brand that wanted to be a part of this market, and they ended up realising two models: the “A” and the “AD” (with an) embedded screen.
Over 50,000 units were sold, mostly to the industrial, educational, scientific, and banking sectors. There are reports of huge use and success of these computers in Angola. It was not very successful in the personal market because the screen of the device only displayed two colours.
