ZX SPECTRUM +2A BOARD
This is one of the rarest pieces in the collection – a “true” board of a 2A that was acquired
in Spain.
To understand this subject, it is important and necessary to remember that usually you can define a +2A as being a +3 without a floppy disk drive but still having its’ respective inner circuits.
This idea is at the root of one of the biggest discussions amongst the community regarding what a +2A actually is… This is a controversial topic because some computers are tagged as being a +2A on the bottom part of their frame, but they have a base board (model Z70833; versions 1, 2 or 4) that don’t have the aforementioned floppy disk drive circuit drive, thus not obeying the previously mentioned definition. This version of the board, in a staircase format, is usually found in the +2B model, therefore creating the theory that these “fake” +2A are actually +2B’s, no matter what is written on the computer frame.
Here we you can see this extremely rare board, model Z70830 (version 1 or 2), and that is what characterizes a +2A. There is also the Z70835, version 1, that is the base of the +3B model.
All of these variants of the board are part of and showcased in this collection.
