PRISM VTX5000 AND TELEX TTX 20005 MODEM

The Prism VTX5000 and the Volex TTX 20005 are devices created to connect the Spectrum to communication networks at a time where internet was not a part of our reality.

The Prism modem is one of the most well known for the ZX Spectrum, and it helped to connect this computer to Prestel’s Micronet network. It gave thousands of microcomputer users the chance to enter the communication world.

However, this was no easy task: there were many limitations imposed by the computers themselves, like the Spectrum (which did not even have a serial interface). The modem allowed for a direct connection to a 120/75 baud and cost £100. It also gave Spectrum users the chance to have a direct line of communication outside Micronet.

The lesser-known Volet TTX is an example of an equipment that allowed for the ZX Spectrum to connect itself to the Telex network. We acquired this device very recently, but we still do not have a lot of information about it and still want to investigate more thoroughly.
